Abstract. Within this work the three dimensional development of a scour around a cylindrical bridge pier has been investigated experimentally. The erosion process has been surveyed in short time intervals using a photogrammetric approach. The results of the work give an unprecedented insight in the development of the scour geometry over time and therefore a crucial step to the fundamental understanding of the phenomena.
