Abstract. With the continuous development of remote sensing technology, various methods for land water body extraction based on satellite remote sensing have emerged. The thresholding method, as a commonly used image segmentation technique, possesses advantages such as high efficiency and wide applicability, making it widely employed in water body extraction research. In this thesis, utilizing SPOT4 imagery, we conducted experimental comparisons of water body extraction using the Iteration thresholding algorithm, Kittler-Illingworth (KI) thresholding algorithm, and Otsu thresholding algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate that all three thresholding methods exhibit good performance in water body extraction, with the Kittler-Illingworth (KI) thresholding algorithm achieving the highest relative accuracy.
