NEAR REAL-TIME DETERMINATION OF EARTHQUAKE SOURCE PARAMETERS FOR TSUNAMI EARLY WARNING FROM GEODETIC OBSERVATIONS

Particle tracking models allow us to explore pathways of floating marine litter, source-to-sink, between countries. This study showed the influence of seasonality for dispersal in Bay of Bengal and how ocean current forcing impacts model performance. Most litter beached on the country of origin, but there was a greater spread shown between countries during the post-monsoon period (Oct–Jan). Results will inform future model developments as well as management of marine litter in the region.

During May 16-18, 2014, the ICDP Workshop on Scientific Deep Drilling in the Koyna region of western India was held in Koyna to review the progress made in the preparatory phase and the preparation of a full drilling proposal. 49 participants came from Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, and USA. It was recommended to have two pilot and two main boreholes, hosting comprehensive sets of monitoring instruments to better comprehend reservoir-triggered earthquakes.
